What is Matariki ? 

Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars known as the pleiades and rises in midwinter. 

What does the name Matariki mean and what is the Maori myth behind Matariki? 

According to myth, when Ranginui the Sky Father and Papatuanuku the Earth Mother were separated by their children Tawhirimatea got so mad that he tore his eyes out and threw them into the heavens. 

Matariki is a time for dancing, singing and Feasting. Matariki was a wonderful time but the celebrations stopped in the 1940’s. 

Taking notes: Matariki is the name for the Maori new year. One night they disappeared from the night sky in Aotearoa. It is a time for hearing stories about the past. Matariki is for me to be with friends and family.

         What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a virus that started in China last year in November 2019 and now it has spread all over the world. This virus is a sickness that can spread by coughing,Temperature and difficulty breathing. For example thousands of people have died due to this virus. Scientists are telling us to be very careful.

How does it affect people?    

Symptoms This virus affects our body. One symptom is coughing. It affects the respiratory system which is our lungs and makes it hard for us to breathe. This disease can affect humans. Sneezing is a way to spread the virus. This virus is very contagious.

How does it affect us

There are many ways that the virus can affect us, for example you can’t shake hands, or hug each other. Around the world places have been closing down, like Sports arenas, restaurants, schools and malls. This virus can also stop us from travelling on public transport which includes trains, cruise ships and airplanes. 

What did New Zealand do as a country?

What New Zealand did as a country was that people stayed home from work and shopped safely and this saved lives. People also had to stay in their bubble and not mix with other people.

This story is about the life of Malala. Malala became the youngest person to win the nobel peace prize. Malala stood up for woman's rights so that girls could have some education too.

My favourite WWE action figure is Randy Orton. He has a blue shirt, has black pants and has Money in the bank briefcase. On the briefcase it says money in the bank. I first got him last year for Christmas. I play with him and all my other action figures. Sometimes I pretend that I’m doing the commentary and is the ring announcer. 

I pretended that he won the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2013. I also pretended that he cashed in on the Big Show to become the world heavyweight champion. That’s why I love playing with Randy Orton.

Last week we were writing our Anzac day poem. This is about when we never forget the Anzac soldiers who fighted for the war in Gallipoli.

                          Looking out the school window

                          As I look through the school window I can see hairy bushes at the end of our school field that look like big green balls. I can also see light green grass blowing in the wind like tree leaves. Something else I can see is a flag pole that looks like a rocket. There's also a pole that has a light on it that glows in the night brightly
